Our beloved brother, father, and grandfather, Michael Wendland Kaftan (57), died in his sleep on October 7, 2018.

Michael was born in Sidney, Montana to Robert and Genevieve Kaftan on November 3, 1960.  Raised in Havre, Montana, he graduated Havre High School in 1979. On December 29, 1982 Michael married Pat Forman, with whom he had has two sons. The couple later divorced but remained friends.

Family was most important to Michael.  He was the proud father of sons, Tyler and Jason, and grandfather of grandson, Carson.  He cherished his relationships with brothers, sisters-in-law, cousins, and extended family connections.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, parents, Robert and Genevieve, and his brother, Gary.

Michael leaves behind his sons Tyler and Jason, grandson Carson, brothers Rick (Barb), Alan (Kim), and Jon (Gina), step-daughters Brooke Kessler and Morgan Hove, along with numerous, cherished cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Michael had a very caring and industrious spirit, an extraordinary talent for forging meaningful relationships, and leaving a positive impact on the lives he touched. Michael’s gregarious personality and sense of humor were refreshing to all who knew him.

Although Michael’s family and friends will miss him tremendously, we know he is at peace and in a better place.  We look forward to seeing him again, in Heaven, healed of his sorrows.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Havre Assembly of God Church, Havre, Montana.  Condolences for the family can be left at http://www.hi-linefuneralservices.com

Dear Kaftan Family,

Our thoughts, prayers and hearts go out to all of you in this very tragic time. Although we all miss Mike, we hope you can find comfort knowing that he’s in a much better place.

Instead of flowers, we made a $100 donation to the Montana Food Bank Network in Mike’s name. This donation will provide 300 meals to families struggling with hunger in Montana this Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
The Warren Transport Crew

I was so saddened to hear of Mike's passing. He came to my brother Keith's funeral 3 years ago, which was so thoughtful. He was a great friend growing up and will be missed. May you find peace in memories. Sending prayers.

I knew Mike during my time working at Warren. I worked in the shop from 2006-2012. Mike was an awesome guy and had a fantastic sense of humor. Whether he was trucking, or working on Weaver’s farm, I saw him almost daily. We’d shoot the breeze about trucking, “delicious beer”, and just poke fun at one another. I don’t know if he ever got that Silverado LTZ once I departed WT, but he sure worked hard enough and deserved one. Last time I saw him was about 4 years ago, and he looked genuinely happy. I never really saw him any other way, always smiling and making the best of things. Godspeed Mike. Rest well. —-John
